Macular degeneration is the number-one cause of vision loss — more than glaucoma and cataracts combined. Characterized by the deterioration of the central area of the retina, known as the macula, the condition affects how images are sent to the optic nerve and then the brain. After receiving infusions of ozonated blood twice per week over the course of several months, patients experienced significant improvements, including minimized death of photoreceptors, the cells in the retina which respond to light.
While studies have been small, the evidence is compelling. Furthermore, because ozone therapy has been regarded to be a safe therapy, patients experiencing macular degeneration in its early stages may find the treatment an attractive option for controlling the disease’s progression.
